The Malaysian economy continued to grow in 2015 despite headwinds at home and abroad. Yet in an environment of continued low oil prices, uneven global recovery, normalization of US monetary policy and fiscal consolidation at home, the economic landscape has become more challenging and volatile.
The 13th edition – Immigrant Labour – describes the pattern of immigration to Malaysia and analyses the relevance of migrant labour in the Malaysian economy. Malaysia has the fourth number of migrants and the seventh highest ratio of migrants to total population in East Asia and Pacific. It provides analytical evidence of immigrant’s benefits and costs to the economy. It is also explores how existing policies compare to international good practices, and how they can best reinforce immigrant labour’s contribution towards achieving the goals identified in the 11th Malaysia Plan.
