Media Statement – Closing Date Extended for Penang Institute Logo Design Competition

29 September 2011

The Socio-economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI) recently changed its name to Penang Institute. This highlights renewed efforts to develop the institute into a major think tank in the country and the region. The slogan that the institute has adopted is “Making Ideas Work”.

Penang is a dynamic and promising place today, where Malaysian governance is being modernised and where new ideas are flourishing. This optimism is what we wish captured. Building on SERI’s tradition of excellence, Penang Institute aspires to be one of the best policy research institutes in the region, one that will provide both the Penang State Government and the people of Penang with far-sighted, creative and out-of-the-box policy options for Penang to lead again. The Institute aims to deepen Penang’s understanding of Asia where our future lies, while attempting to be the gathering hub where great Asian and global thinkers exchange views, with Penang as the experiment site where we put good ideas to work.

On 1 September 2011, Penang Institute launched a Logo Design Competition to invite the public to be part of this exciting renewal. The closing date for submission is 30 September 2011. However, in response to overwhelming enquiries and requests, we are extending the competition for another two weeks and the new deadline is 15 October 2011.

We hope this move will provide opportunity to those who have yet to submit their entries to do so. The winning entry will receive RM2, 000.00 and a one-year subscription of Penang Economic Monthly (PEM), a premier magazine published by Penang Institute.

Further information can be found here. Come today and be part of this new legacy.

Thank You,

STEVEN SIM
Senior Executive Officer
