In this episode, we invite Mr. Chin Choong Yin, a native of Balik Pulau, to share his journey behind the creation of Sejarah Balik Pulau: Kajian Tempatan dan Perubahan. As a history and Malay language teacher, Mr. Chin has dedicated himself to inspiring students and promoting local culture. This rare book offers a comprehensive historical record of Balik Pulau and was born out of the grief Mr. Chin felt after losing his father. To honor his roots, he spent seven years conducting field research, exploring every corner of his hometown. The book extends from his family history to the town’s development, examining the landscape, rivers, and even natural events like landslides. Through this work, Mr. Chin reflects the power of local research, turning personal sorrow into a shared cultural legacy.
