Dr. Wong Chin Huat is now a Fellow at Penang Institute

Penang Institute, the public policy think tank of the state government of Penang, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Wong Chin Huat as a new Fellow of our Institute.

Dr Wong is a prolific scholar who has contributed to numerous publications on a variety of public issues such as federalism, press freedom and local elections.  The wide range of his academic contributions reflects the comprehensive nature of his training.   Dr Wong obtained an undergraduate degree in Economics from Universiti Malaya, an MA in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Essex.  His doctoral dissertation analysed the electoral system and party politics of West Malaysia.
 
Besides being one of Malaysia’s thought leaders, Dr. Wong has also carved a reputation as an activist for clean governance. He is a steering committee member of the electoral reform pressure group, Bersih 2.0. Prior to joining the Penang Institute, he was a lecturer at Monash University in Kuala Lumpur.

The appointment of Dr Wong is part Penang Institute’s programme to enhance the intellectual platform for public engagement on critical, current and strategic issues concerning Penang, Malaysia and the region at large. In his capacity as a Fellow, Dr Wong will lead research projects and mentor junior researchers.

槟州政府公共政策智囊团-槟州研究所 (Penang Institute),欣然宣布黄进发博士正式加 盟成为槟州研究所的研究员(fellow)。

黄博士是位出色的学者,就联邦制、新闻自由及地方选举等各种公共课题皆有著述,反映出他广泛的学术训练。黄氏拥有马大经济学士学位、国大工业与组织心理硕士学位及艾塞克斯大学(University of Essex)政治博士学位,而其博士论文则剖析西马的选举制度及政党政 治。黄博士不仅是引领舆论的知识分子,也以直接参与社会运动推动良政著称。他是选举改革倡议组织“净选盟2.0”的指导委员。在槟州研究所任职之前,他曾任教于莫纳什大学(Monash University) 双威校园。

黄博士的加盟,是槟城研究所强化其知识平台的一部分计划,推展关系槟城、马来西亚及本区域的关键、当前及策略性课题的公共讨论。作为研究员,黄博士将领导研究计划,并引导后进研究人员。
