Media Statement – Penang Institute Logo Design Competition

6 September 2011

The Socio-economic & Environmental Research Institute (SERI) was established by the Penang State Government in 1997 as the state’s think tank, to formulate strategic planning and policy recommendations, aimed at improving the quality of life for its citizens through the principles of sustainable development.

Starting from 1 August 2011, SERI has officially changed its name to the Penang Institute, reflecting our desire to internationalise ourselves and complete the changes necessary to bring the institute to the next level.

We are inviting Malaysians to participate in the Penang Institute Logo Design Competition and design a brand new logo that reflects this new chapter in the Institute’s history. The winning entry will receive RM2,000.00 and a one year subscription to Penang Economic Monthly (PEM) magazine. The closing date is 30 September 2011.

The logo should promote the Penang Institute as a knowledge hub for intellectual development, as well as urbanisation, socio-economic and environmental issues, regionally and globally. The design may incorporate the organisation’s official slogan, “Making Ideas Work”.

Further information can be found here.

Thank You,

LIEW CHIN TONG
Executive Director
SERI-Penang Institute
