Yeong Pey Jung hosted Professor Wong Chin Huat in discussing the role of institutions and processes in dictating Malaysia’s current political sphere, and how the majoritarian political system can act to stifle the democratic process. Professor Wong also talked about the “zero-sum game” mindset driving political attitudes and shifting political alliances. He also laid out clearly that changes to the system is one way to change the behaviour of both politicians and voters alike. Institutional reform is vital for Malaysia, and needs to be undertaken urgently.
