In this episode, we welcome Wong Kem Beng, founder of Fuming Incense, to share his journey with incense and Malaysia’s native aromatic materials. His connection with incense began in childhood through family rituals and daily practices at home. Years later, when his wife was expecting a child, he began searching for safer and more natural incense options, which led him to start making incense himself. What began as simple curiosity gradually grew into a deeper and more meaningful exploration. After founding Fuming Incense ten years ago, he expanded his practice from single-note incense to blended formulations. A visit to Guangzhou in 2019 became a turning point, inspiring him to further develop incense based on Malaysian Jiangzhen. With guidance from mentors and fellow practitioners, he studied historical texts and explored local forests, deepening his understanding of native materials such as borneol found in Malaysia.

Through this ongoing journey, as Fuming Incense marks its tenth anniversary, he continues to explore Malaysia’s rich natural resources and cultural heritage, with the hope of fostering greater awareness and appreciation of the country’s invaluable materials and traditions among the public.
