Penang artist Howard Tan’s work masterfully fuses collage and photography elements deeply rooted in local Malaysian characteristics, presenting a truly unique artistic style.
In this episode, we are honored to invite him to share his complete creative journey. He begins by reminiscing about his early life: how his “wild” experiences growing up in Jelutong, Penang, gave rise to his profound impressions of the countryside; and how his meticulous observation of wedding invitation cards and his love for films later inspired him to pursue art. Ultimately, these influences led him to develop photography as his primary creative medium, embark on his artistic path, and open his own art studio.
Howard will also guide us in exploring how he manages to discover and refine Penang’s unique creative elements from “unintentional creativity,” and how he draws endless inspiration from the local cafes opened by young entrepreneurs.
