In this episode, Taiwanese researcher Ms Tsai Yu-Wen shares her insights on traditional Taiwanese woodcarving and the evolving paths of young artisans. With a conventional architectural art restoration background, Yu Wen honed practical and theoretical skills. Her doctoral research explores the artistic value of crafts, documenting the challenges and opportunities contemporary woodcarvers face. During her short-term study in Penang, she observed striking parallels between young artisans in Taiwan and Malaysia, embodying the spirit of “ten years to polish a sword” through dedication and cross-disciplinary innovation.
