Penang Monthly Book Prize 2018 Award Ceremony

After months of searching, Penang Monthly finally announces the winning title of the Penang Monthly Book Prize 2018.

The Penang Monthly Book Prize is an award that celebrates works of fiction written in English with Malaysia as its narrative background, at least partially. The book prize was inaugurated in 2017 in an effort to give the thriving Malaysian literary scene the recognition it deserves.

This year, the independent judging panel, which comprises Dr Grace V. S. Chin, Dr Mohamad Rashidi Pakri and Dato’ Dr Ooi Kee Beng, shortlisted four titles to be in the running for the winning entry.

They were:

1. Finding Maria by Dawn Farnham
2. Cold East by Gabija Grušaité
3. Iban Woman by Golda Mowe
4. Marriage and Mutton Curry by M. Shanmughalingam

The winning title will be announced by the guest of honour, Dato’ Dr Anwar Fazal, at the award ceremony.

Date: November 25, Sunday
Time: 5pm (doors open at 4.30pm)
Venue: Conference Hall, Penang Institute, 10 Brown Road, 10350 George Town, Penang
