Penang Institute met with representatives from AAED (Australia-ASEAN Education Dialogue), Curtin University, Prince of Songkla University, University of Wollongong and Penang Science Cluster to discuss the importance of education and collaboration.
In addition to explaining Penang Institute’s role as the think tank for the state government, the Executive Director, Dato’ Dr. Ooi, also gave a brief introduction of Penang and its socioeconomic and political landscape. It was agreed that the SDGs should always be part of the bigger conversations going forward, especially with regards to education, as this will be the starting point where the students and the youth are encouraged to truly understand and adopt the SDGs.
With the presence of prominent Australian universities in Malaysia, and with the University of Wollongong establishing two campuses in Penang, we look forward to more insightful discussions on the way forward in improving the quality of education, and on how we could collaborate fruitfully in areas of research relating to the SDGs.
