The European Union Delegation, led by Nicolas Dross, First Counsellor and Head of Section for Trade and Economic Relations, visited Penang Institute and was received by Dato’ Dr. Ooi Kee Beng and the Socioeconomics and Statistics Programme.
Dr. Ooi enlightened the delegation on a brief history of Penang and the political dynamics and developments in the state before and after the momentous 14th general election in 2018. The economic challenges for Penang was also addressed, with the gaps in high-skilled labour and talent acquisition being the main points of discussion.
Mr. Dross expressed a keen interest to work with Penang Institute on increasing connectivity between the EU and Malaysia, and ASEAN as a whole. It was agreed that connectivity is a vital key in strengthening the relationship between the two regions, and both parties look forward to a fruitful collaboration.
