Dato’ Dr. Ooi, Executive Director of Penang Institute, spoke as a panelist at the Asia Think Tank Network Policy Forum, on the topic “Why Think-Tanks Matter in Advancing Governance and Market-Oriented Reforms?” Dr. Ooi discussed the role of Penang Institute as a policy maker for the state government of Penang, and some of the challenges the Institute faces in the context of think-tank work. Also featured on the same panel were Ali Salman, Chief Executive Officer of IDEAS Malaysia and Subhashini Abeysinghe, Research Director of Verite, Sri Lanka.
The Asia Think Tank Network Policy Forum was organised by the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and IDEAS Malaysia. The forum aims to discuss regional issues, trends and developments from the perspective of think tanks in the South-East Asia region, as well as to undertake knowledge sharing on individual activities, initiatives and capacity building.
