pg in world conference

In conjunction with the inauguration of Penang Institute’s new office building, the public policy think tank for the state government of Penang is proud to organize Penang in the World Conference on 6th-7th August 2016. Penang Institute would like to cordially invite your presence to Penang in the World Conference which will be held at Penang Institute, No. 10, Jalan Brown, 10350 Penang as scheduled below:-

  • Conference Day 1: 6th August 2016 (Saturday) – 9.00am – 5.00pm followed by Special Dinner Lecture from 8.00pm – 10.00pm
  • Conference Day 2: 7th August 2016 (Sunday) – 9.00am – 1.00pm

The external macro environment for 2016 has proven to be challenging for Malaysia. Being a small and open economy, Malaysia – and Penang along with it – is highly dependent on the health of the global economy. Penang, despite being one of the smallest state in Malaysia, is one of the top contributor to Malaysia’s GDP due to her unique attributes as the most livable city in Malaysia. In this 1.5 days conference, we will have panels discussing on the state of global economy and its implications for ASEAN, generational changes as well as Penang’s software. Full programme of the conference is available on https://penanginstitute.org

The highlight of this conference will be none other than having a Special Dinner Lecture by Dr Chatib Basri, former Finance Minister of Indonesia. The rise of President Joko Widodo as an “outsider” in Indonesia marks the dramatic transformation of the country. Having embraced democracy and free press, Indonesia being the world’s largest Muslim country proves that Islam and liberal democratic values can co-exist. Being also the largest country and economy in ASEAN, Indonesia is the natural leader in the region; a fact that will prove pertinent as disputes in the South China Sea begins to escalate.

Admission to the conference is FREE. Due to limited seats available, please register early to avoid disappointment.
