Taylor’s School of Liberal Arts & Sciences collaborated with Penang Institute to bring you this month’s Taylor’s University Social Science Dialogue Series titled “The ‘New’ Malaysia: Building Nation or Building State?”
A common position of the speakers was that Malaysian society has to work at, on the one hand, depoliticising the country’s public discourse, i.e. giving technocrats space to interact with the mass media and to take responsibility for their work, and on the other, letting class analyses and sociological terminology take the place of racial categories.
Representing Penang Institute as one of the speakers was Executive Director, Dato’ Dr Ooi. Other speakers were Prof. Mansor Mohd Noor and Anas Zubedy, moderated by Nur Ainif Omar.
