Digitalisation and the Future of Work

It has been proven that smart automation or digital technologies have the potential to bring great economic benefits. This will also generate new occupational profiles, more productive jobs and new earnings for workers. However, as technologies rapidly advance, concerns over the future of labour increases, especially in labour-intensive sectors such as manufacturing. This webinar will discuss the impact and drivers of digitalisation and automation on employment, changing skill needs and skill mismatch. Measures and strategies to support the future workforce will also be discussed.

About the speakers:

Mr. Tan Eng Tong is the CEO of Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC). He has over 30 years of experience leading teams in R&D and product development at Hewlett-Packard in the UK, HP Labs and Seagate Technology in Silicon Valley. More recently, he led an optics startup Singapore, and an online marketplace in Beijing. He was advisor for numerous startup and social enterprise teams at NUS Enterprise, NTU and SMU in Singapore. He also led a top business school in Selangor and hold a VP Strategic Management position in SilTerra. Eng Tong holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Imperial College London, and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management.

Mr. Matin Ng is a deputy CEO of UWC Berhad. UWC is an integrated engineering supporting industry providing one stop solution and manufacturing of automated test equipment ranging from semiconductor to life-science industry. Matin is also a vice-chairman of PSDC and a chairman of youth club, federation Malaysia manufacturer, Penang branch. He graduated from the University of Exeter, UK with a Master degree in accounting and finance.
