Position: Manager for George Town Literary Festival
We are looking for a Manager for the George Town Literary Festival to join Penang Institute’s GTLF team. This position involves participation in the Institute’s
“Public Progress” line of activities.
We are looking for someone with:
- Experience: At least 2 years in event management, arts administration or a related field, preferably of literary or cultural festivals.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to work in a team and deliver high-quality events under tight deadlines.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
- Passion: A deep appreciation for literature and the arts, and how these relate to the society’s development and general wellbeing.
- Problem-Solving: Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work flexible hours, especially during the festival period (which is the end of November every year).
- Knowledge about contemporary Penang: this puts the applicant at an advantage.
The tasks you are to manage include:
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of the annual George Town Literary Festival. Equally important is the growing of the GTLF brand in various formats decided by the Institute, such as GTLF PLUS seminars throughout the year, and the newly-initiated podcast series “Creativity in between Spaces”.
- Develop and manage budgets, sponsorships, and funding proposals to ensure the festival’s sustainability.
- Oversee logistics, manage vendors and external contractors, and coordinate volunteers and workers for the event.
- 4. Build and maintain good relationship with local, national, and international partners, including writers, publishers, and cultural organizations.
- Complete a post-festival report for sponsors.
- Manage post-festival tasks, including invoicing and payments.
You will be working in the GTLF Team, under the Festival Director (cum Executive Director of Penang Institute), whose work is supported by all the other arms of Penang Institute.
