On 12th March 2022, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Noor Hisham bin Abdullah, Director-General of Health for Malaysia, was awarded the first Dr. Wu Lien-Teh Award for Leadership in Public Health in recognition for his contributions in leading the healthcare sector response against the Covid-19 pandemic and revolutionising a new approach for affordable drug development to eliminate Hepatitis C. On that note, he delivered a public lecture titled “Steeling Up Against the Omicron Storm – Is Malaysia Prepared?” in Penang Institute – the 6th edition of the Dr. Wu Lien-Teh Public Lecture co-organised by Penang Institute and The Dr. Wu Lien-Teh Society. The event was broadcasted LIVE on Penang Institute’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, as well as The Dr. Wu Lien-Teh Society’s Facebook page, and can be viewed here.
During the program, Madam Lim Guat Eng (Ying Zhi) generously donated two paintings to The Dr. Wu Lien-Teh society, titled “Tribute to the Great Man of the Century, Dr. Wu Lien-Teh” and “Savior of Mankind” respectively. The large-sized paintings represented her gratitude to the contributions of the Father of Modern Medicine, Dr Wu Lien-Teh, and will be placed in Penang Institute’s Dr Wu Lien-Teh Commemorative Room.
