Malaysia: Beyond National Education Conference

CONFERENCE BACKGROUND

Education, as the means of achieving individual, societal and national aspirations, is a pillar of Malaysian society.

It is the foundation of all that we have come to know as human development. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, Malaysia has endeavored to provide all with accessible and quality education.

Yet, structural and systemic issues in the space of education remain. These have recently been laid bare for all to see as the pandemic unfolded last year. A national education emergency occurred alongside the health emergency when learning lost its familiar form. As the future of society was cast into unprecedented uncertainty, core matters such as the accessibility, quality and purpose of education were called into question.

This national conference, organised by Penang Institute and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung[1], seeks to bring education stakeholders in Malaysia together, to collectively address these core questions, to troubleshoot challenges, discuss ideas and bring about good change at the local level.
