Experiences from Taiwan: Restoring an Ancestral Portrait (Mandarin Forum)

Penang Institute is proud to host a public lecture titled “Experiences from Taiwan: Restoring an Ancestral Portrait (Mandarin Forum)”.

In Taiwan, the restoration methods of historical objects have been influenced by western concepts for several decades. The western method emphasizes careful evaluation and research into the conditions of an object through scientific analysis before any further action is taken, unlike the traditional “repaint” method where a new layer is painted over the original layers. In this talk, through the example of an ancestral portrait in Kinmen, Professor Shao Ching-Wang from Department of Architecture Art Conservation, National Taiwan University of Arts will share the survey process before a restoration project begins. He will also enlighten us on the heritage practices and experiences of Taiwan.

Speaker: Shao Ching-Wang

(Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture Art Conservation, National Taiwan University of Arts / Director, Cultural Relics Conservation and Research Center, Yo-Chang Art Museum)
