What is History & Heritage Programme?
We focus on new ways of understanding connections between the past and present, and in the process throw light on contemporary changes in Penang and in South-East Asia as a whole. The history and heritage of Penang provide a rich resource for understanding the region.
Who are the team members?
Dr. Wong Yee Tuan, Head
He received his PhD in history from the Australian National University. His main research interest is in the area of the Chinese business history of Southeast Asia, particularly Penang.
Koay Su Lyn, Analyst
Su Lyn has a strong interest in political history typically that of her hometown, Penang. She researches and writes mainly on the political, economical and social development of post-war Penang.
Pan Yi Chieh, Analyst
She received her M.A. in anthropology from Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, focusing on the historical formation of Penang Clan Jetties. She is now researching on the household structures and space uses of Clan Jetties’ communities.
Lim Sok Swan, Analyst
Sok Swan received her Master’s degree from Department of Anthropology, National Taiwan University. Her current research interest focus on Cultural Heritage Studies, especially in George Town, Penang.
