3Gs together with Penang Institute will be jointly organising a Forum cum Workshop on “Housing for the Poor: The Way Forward.”

Summary
Housing for the poor is the responsibility of all governments of the day. For the past decades, under a Federal policy of increasing privatization, many State Governments and Local Authorities, including those in Penang, have shifted a large part of that task to the private sector. Many problems have arisen as a result. This Forum cum Workshop hopes to generate informed discussions on the actual situation of housing for the poor in Penang and to explore alternative approaches to meet their needs, in particular, those of women who make up half the population. The organizers hope that the recommendations, which will aim at promoting social justice, good governance and gender equality, will be adopted by the State Government and the newly incorporated Housing Board.
